Founded in 1904 in Syracuse, New York, Alpha Gamma Delta is an international fraternity for women, dedicated to academic excellence, leadership development, high ideals, and sisterhood.

The Greater New Orleans and Baton Rouge Alumnae Club has recently been relaunched and welcomes sisters from any chapter to join us for our many events.

Officer Descriptions

President*: responsible to use correct Fraternity procedures, communicate and work with a variety of people, act as “Chief Executive Officer”, accountable for the success or failures of the group.

She must be a leader in whom members have confidence; have knowledge of the Fraternity, its rules and procedures; be able to motivate other officers to perform their duties; be able to conduct a proper business meeting and be fair and just. It is desirable that she have past experience in other alumnae offices.

Vice President*: performs the duties of the President in the President’s absence, maintain membership, telephone committee, and Records of Service (Philanthropy currently falls under the VP but can be a separate office).

She must be able to organize member and telephone calling lists. She must have the ability to meet and greet others with warmth and enthusiasm. She should have excellent communication skills. She must be able to assume the duties and responsibilities of the President in her absence or at her call.

Secretary*: responsible for meeting minutes and roll call.

She must be able to translate the spoken word into written with clarity and accuracy, be meticulous in detail, be able to type, be prompt in completing minutes and be faithful in attendance at meetings.

Permanent Secretary*: maintains up to date files of all members, publishes directory, mails alumnae introduction forms, assists editor with up to date mailing list (we will not vote on this office since it is permanent).

She must be able to work alone, be conscientious in keeping accurate and up-to-date records, be neat and accurate in details, and must be willing to accept the office for an extended period of time. It is desirable that she have a wide knowledge of members over many years.

Treasurer*: keeps accurate records of all monies received and disbursed, collects and records support fees, fund raising proceeds and newsletter contributions, forwards annual payment to International Headquarters.

She must have sound budgetary and management skills and be detail oriented. She must be dependable, accurate, trustworthy and meticulous in record keeping.

Editor*: must use correct Alpha Gamma Delta terminology in all of her work, compiles scrapbook, sends out publicity releases and newsletters, submits material to Quarterly.

She must have the ability to write in an interesting style, have knowledge of composition and grammar, be alert to newsworthy items and be informed about Fraternity policies and terminology. Some training or experience in journalism is helpful. Knowledge and use of computers is desirable.

Philanthropy Chair: research and be alert to opportunities for fund raising and community service. Organize and conduct at least one fund raising and one community service project each year.

IRD Chair: plan IRD and the program to be held at IRD.

Panhellenic Delegate: works with area Panhellenic Council.
